Who is responsible for your training?
Creative Edge Training is responsible under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 for the quality of the training and assessment being delivered in this course and for the issuance of all AQF certificates.
The SHB30416 comprises 28 units of competency. Creative Edge Training have organised these units of competency into relevant clusters relating to shared skills and knowledge or shared work tasks. This results in an efficient delivery of training and assessment and a structure that is very logical for learners.
To be issued the qualification SHB30416 a learner must be assessed as competent in 28 units of competency. 21 core units plus a total of 7 elective units. (3units from Group A General Hairdressing or 3 units from group B Men’s Hairdressing plus 4 elective units from Group C General). Creative Edge Training have selected the elective units of competency within this course and have chosen these based on providing the learner a broad set of skills with a focus on providing both men’s and ladies delivery. The selected units of competency are also supported by the learning content within the prescribed text. The selection of these units of competency and the course structure has been confirmed through industry engagement undertaken by Creative Edge Training.
National recognition
These competencies have been drawn from the nationally endorsed industry training package the SHB Hairdressing Training Package. On successfully completing the training and assessment, a SHB30416 Certificate III in Hairdressing qualification will be issued. A transcript listing all units of competency will also be issued. The qualification and units of competency are nationally recognised and provide individuals with a valuable qualification that can be applied throughout Australia and the wider Hairdressing community. Creative Edge Training will issue a qualification within 30 days of the final assessment being completed.
Program outline – Apprenticeship
- Certificate III in Hairdressing can be studies as an Apprentice – whilst engaged with an Employer
- As a School based Apprentice – Engaged with an Employer whilst still at school
The course is a competency based qualification and is expected to take 3 years full time and up to 6 years part time.The exception applies if applicants have achieved competence prior to commencement or apply for RPL.
This information will be outlined in the Students Training Plan issued upon commencement with any credit transfers applied and time credit from the Apprenticeship board for prior Industry experience.
Training can be studied at our Academy in Reedy Creek or Visits from Creative Edge Training Educators to the students workplace.
Your education program will be customised with your employer to deliver quality education with Industries finest creative Educators.The training will be delivered in partnership with your employer and customised to develop your individual needs in a flexible delivery mode to suit your employment conditions.
Bootcamps & Workshops
Compulsory non accredited bootcamps/workshops will be attended in addition to your Workplace and /or campus training where industry icons and specialists in their field will support your training, inspire and educate you.
Your Educator will guide you to which bootcamp/ workshop you should attend and is offered a number of times, in several locations to ensure you are able to attend.
Bootcamps will include practical activities, which will require students to bring all their equipment. All enrolled Creative Edge Training Apprentices are able to attend our bootcamps and workshops free of charge which aligns directly to the qualification as part of our commitment to education. Additional head blocks will be required to be purchased at a subsidized price.
Further Apprenticeship information
Fee paying arrangement in an accelerated program
Full time
All though the course is competency based qualification it will be offered as a 14 month course at 4 days per week with a combination of Bootcamps to fast track your learning.
Part Time
3 Days per week – 18 months
An Industry component will be offered to ensure you have actual Hairdressing Salon experience and learn from some of Industries experts and ensuring you have real life experience with prospective employment opportunities.
The course units (clusters) are sequenced in a way that allows a logical progression. Participants will be provided with professionally presented reference material to assist them to develop their knowledge of the subject.
The exception applies if applicants have achieved competence prior to commencement or apply for RPL and may be able to complete the course in a shorter duration.

Intake Dates
Rolling intakes can be discussed. Please talk to our Team for an individual timetable to suit your needs.
On commencement a Training plan will be developed which will outline the course duration.
This will be discussed in detail with you upon commencement outlining your program.
The above Bootcamps/ Workshops will be delivered inclusively as part of your study.
If you have started your training you may be eligible for course credits or RPL recognition of prior learning.
If you consider you may be eligible please advise Creative Edge Training staff at time of enrollment.
Entry Requirements
There are no education prerequisites, however students must be enrolled prior to commencing formal training delivered by Creative Edge Training.
Equipment
Students are required to purchase your own personal tools, including but not limited to the below items:
Hairdressing:
- Cutting & texturizing Scissors
- A range of cutting combs basin, tail & teasing combs
- Blow dryer
- A range of brushes including paddle brush, vent & round brushes (small/medium/large)
- Styling irons (ie GHD)
- Section clips, butterfly clips
- Clippers, a range of size guards
- Razor
- Tool bag
- Water spray bottle.
While the essentials tools listed remain consistent, there is a vast range of tools and options available, allowing participants to tailor their toolkit to suit their own individual style.
